Affordability of Precast Ramps

Precast ramps are as easy to install as patio blocks. Here’s how it’s done:

1. The ramp location is excavated, coarse graded and topped with a 3-inch layer of stone dust.
2. After compaction and fine grading, the ramp is moved into position with the boom of a backhoe.
3. The ramp is set into position and checked for elevations. It can be lifted to allow for minor adjustments before it is lowered into its final position.
4. Installation should be completed in approximately 2.5 hours.

A delivered precast concrete public access ramp costs about $500 to $600. Mass production figures are estimated at $450, assuming popularity increases. Additionally, local sponsorship (see the subhead Early detection and life-long advertising) could further reduce costs by providing funding for the cost of the unit.
