Online Disaster Planning Resources

Small business is big business in this country, and it accounts for 99.7 percent of all employers in the United States, according to the U.S. Small Business Administration. But unlike their larger counterparts, small businesses are especially at risk from disaster, since few have the resources or knowledge to develop full-scale property protection and continuity plans.

The Institute for Business & Home Safety has created “Open for Business” as a way to help those companies get a better handle on their loss prevention and disaster recovery plans. It’s a comprehensive disaster planning tool kit in booklet and CD-ROM formats that helps business owners reduce the potential for loss should disaster strike and reopen quickly should they be forced to close.

“Open for Business” includes an assessment tool that helps the business determine its susceptibility to disaster and minimize its risks. The toolkit also includes materials to help organize the business’s critical information and review its essential operations, both of which lead to developing a continuity plan.

Get your copy of “Open for Business” online at www.ibhs.org/business_protection or by writing to info@ibhs.org or calling (866) 657-4247.
