ConSeal announces promotions
Concrete Sealants Inc. of Tipp City, Ohio, has promoted three top-tier executives.
Darryl Cloud is now the company’s national sales manager. He has been with ConSeal for 16 years and holds a bachelor’s degree from Capital University, a master’s from Central Michigan University and a doctorate’s from Capella University. Cloud has also been an integral part of the National Precast Concrete Association, where he serves on the board of directors. He has been involved with several NPCA committees, including the Convention Planning, Stormwater, Box Culvert and Marketing committees, and has also been a leading figure in NPCA’s Top Gun Club, the Exhibitors Council and numerous task force projects.
Sam Lines was promoted to safety director and technical sales support. He has been involved in the precast industry for 15 years with product design, quality assurance and industrial safety. Lines is a senior member of the American Society for Quality and a member of ASTM, plus he is certified by ACI as a concrete field testing technician. His leadership roles in NPCA have included the Safety, Health & Environmental Committee and the Technical Committee.
Frank Palas was named field sales representative. His experience in the precast concrete industry spans 16 years. Palas is a former surveyor and holds a degree in civil engineering technology.

Vollert and Weckenmann consolidate sales activities
Vollert Anlagenbau and Weckenmann Anlagentechnik will now market their products jointly. The two companies have worked together on numerous projects while developing a solid foundation of trust. This cooperation will result in complete automated precast concrete factories that can be built the world over, and customers will benefit from having the mixing plant to the fully automated reinforcement to the casting of the concrete in a single contract, the company says.
Weckenmann offers robot technology, processing machines and shuttering systems, while Vollert works with storage systems, circulation and concrete compacting technologies. Together the two companies bring more than 100 years of experience to their customers worldwide.
Doric announces new sales director
Doric Products Inc. of Marshall, Ill., a manufacturer of steel and concrete burial vaults, has announced the addition of Tim Walker as director of Dealer Development and Sales. Walker, a licensed funeral director with 35 years of experience, managed a 300-call funeral home in 1996, then moved to Hicks Industries, a Doric licensee, where he became involved in every aspect of the burial vault business.
In his new position, Walker will take information gleaned from Doric dealers, add his own experiences in the industry and share that information with other dealers to help grow their businesses. He will also be available to conduct seminars and continuing education workshops as well as assist with marketing issues.

Degussa adds positions in eastern U.S.
Degussa Admixtures Inc. has announced two additional positions dedicated to precast sales in the eastern United States.
Gerald Lapier has been named sales specialist and is responsible for coordinating the precast sales efforts and support in the company’s Eastern Division. Lapier began his career with Degussa in 2002 managing precast customers in the New England area.
Johnanthony Fiorilli joined Degussa as the new precast sales specialist for Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland. Fiorilli has worked in the construction materials industry for 11 years.
Spillman introduces aluminum blockouts
Spillman Co. of Columbus, Ohio, recently introduced a new line of EZY-STRYP aluminum blockouts for rectangular catch basins and round manholes to fulfill the growing demand for lightweight, durable devices to make the required pipe openings in these structures.
The new aluminum blockouts are normally combined with one or more EZY-STRYP button magnets to provide for a quick and easy way to position the blockouts in the correct location within the form, says the company. Spillman’s engineering team has developed a full range of fixed and adjustable blockouts with a minumum diameter of 12 inches to meet a wide range of casting requirements.

U.S. Concrete acquires Olson Precast
U.S. Concrete Inc., based in Houston, has acquired the operating assets of Olson Precast Co., a precast manufacturer in Lathrop, Calif. U.S. Concrete says that the transaction continues the execution of company strategy to expand its operations through quality acquisitions that strengthen it in the marketplace.
The acquisition provides U.S. Concrete the opportunity to gain exposure to a new group of customers through enhanced access to the Sacramento market and nearby areas of the California Central Valley region.

Besser adds pipe handling system
Besser Co. recently acquired the pipe handling system from Messmann Service GmbH. In addition, Besser and Messmann formed an exclusive partnership to continue the development of equipment for pipe handling.
The acquisition complements Besser’s current pipe machinery product line. The company says that the addition of the automated robotic handling system allows Besser to supply producers with a complete Besser system supported by parts availability, technical service and training.

SJE-Rhombus Controls, a manufacturer of liquid level controls based in Detroit Lakes, Minn., has hired First Sales LLC to represent SJE’s product line in Ohio, West Virginia and western Pennsylvania.

SJE-Rhombus introduces water pressure booster controller
SJE-Rhombus Controls has introduced its VFDC-4000 water pressure booster controller. The VFDC-4000 microprocessor-based controller is specifically designed for constant pressure applications using variable frequency drives (VFDs).
Capable of controlling up to four VFDs, the VFDC-4000 controller features PID control, automatic alternation, data logging and communication capabilities. The backlit graphic display allows the operator to monitor pressure, pump speeds and alarm status at a glance. The menu-driven setup makes navigation and configuration fast and simple, says the company. The VFDC is backed by a one-year warranty.

Sika introduces dry-cast admixtures
Sika Corp. of Lyndhurst, N.J., is introducing a full line of admixtures for dry-cast applications. These new products will be marketed under the Sikamix brand and have been especially designed for applications such as pipe, hollow-core planks, pavers and segmental retaining walls.
The Sika product line includes Sikamix AE-1, an efflorescence controlling admixture that significantly reduces or eliminates primary efflorescence; Sikamix W-10, a waterproofing admixture that allows for the production of waterproof concrete masonry units; and Sikamix NCA, a strength-enhancing admixture that is based on Sika Rapid Technology and allows producers to save significantly on heating costs.
Other products include a full range of plasticizers targeting a variety of applications that improve appearance, and cost-optimized mix designs.

Smith-Midland unveils new, improved Concrete Safety Systems
Smith-Midland Corp. of Midland, Va., has announced the reintroduction of Concrete Safety Systems, a division of the company that specializes in precast concrete safety barrier rentals with the patented J.J. Hooks connection system.
Concrete Safety Systems will now be able to offer customers additional services at lower cost, says the company. Anyone who needs to control vehicle or pedestrian traffic can benefit from barrier rental, including highway, bridge or construction contractors without having to maintain extensive storage space or invest large amounts of money for barrier inventory.

Polylok introduces two new products
Polylok Inc. has introduced two new products for water and wastewater handling: an orifice diffuser and a safety screen.
The new orifice diffuser offers advancements in effluent distribution, says the company. The patent-pending design includes an impeller that directs wastewater from the discharge piping in a 360-degree manner. This optimizes the leaching fields and protects the soils around the piping from unnecessary erosion. In addition, the orifice diffuser is designed with a cover that sits on top of the impeller to ensure no sand or stone enters the discharge piping.
Polylok’s new safety screen comes in 20-inch and 24-inch sizes. This secondary safety product fits securely in the top stack of any Polylok riser system. It can withstand loads of up to 1,200 pounds and comes furnished with a built-in handle for easy installation as well as removal for servicing.

AGA and IZA announce online resource center and brochure
The American Galvanizers Association and the International Zinc Association recently released an online Galvanized Rebar Resource Center at www.galvanizedrebar.com. In conjunction with the Web site, the associations also released a comprehensive hot-dip galvanized rebar brochure.
The Web site is a complete resource center providing construction engineers and architects with relevant information on the properties and performance of hot-dip galvanized reinforcing steel. The resource center contains technical information about galvanized rebar in the following areas: performance, field handling, cost, inspection, specification guidelines, frequently asked questions, case histories and global contact information.
The 10-page galvanized rebar brochure, entitled “Hot-Dip Galvanized Steel: A Concrete Investment,” describes hot-dip galvanized rebar and how it performs in concrete.
