Safety Program of the Quarter - Hazard Communication
The NPCA Safety, Health & Environmental
Committee has prepared this Safety Program to provide precasters
with an easy-to-use format for conducting safety programs.
Each program consists of four parts:
- A PowerPoint presentation of the
program that can be used by the presenter;
- A copy of the program from the NPCA
Guide to Plant Safety;
- A sample plan for additional training;
- And a Safety Program sign-in form to
log employee attendance.

materials for members
Safety on the job is an essential
component of any successful precast operation. NPCA is committed
to protecting its single most valuable resource: its personnel.
The association offers a variety of informative safety resources
in The
NPCA SHOP, including:
The Back to Basics
Safety Video – Featuring footage taken at NPCA
member plants, this video focuses on common hazards related
to product lifting, lift trucks, overhead cranes, electricity,
chemical and noise exposures and more. This comprehensive
resource also addresses helpful personal protective equipment
such as hardhats, safety glasses, gloves and hearing protection.
Whether you’re in need of a safety overview to share
with new employees or an important refresher for plant veterans,
this is the tool for you. This video is also available in
Spanish.
Basic Safety Administration:
Handbook/Safety Officer – This handy resource
was written specifically for the new safety officer who has
little to no safety training in his or her background. The
handbook provides an introduction to key elements of a plant
safety program to ensure effective accident prevention strategies.
Mobile Cranes,
Third Edition – Developed for operators, riggers,
supervisors and other safety personnel who use mobile cranes,
this guide includes informative tables, load charts and illustrations
to explain crane set up and operating procedures.
Forklift Safety:
A Practical Guide to Preventing Injuries – This
training manual explains how lift trucks work and addresses
driving skill requirements. The guide also addresses types
of training, provides inspection and training tips and offers
practical case studies and checklists.
Employee Safety
Handbook – Available in a practical pocket-size
format you can carry around the plant, this little guide offers
big tips to assist you in your safety efforts. This handbook
is also available in Spanish.
2007 Selected ASTM
Standards for Precast Concrete (available in manual
or as a PDF on a CD) – NPCA compiles ASTM standards
specific to the precast concrete industry into one convenient
member resource. The association publishes an updated version
annually.
