New MGM Grand Detroit Clad in Precast

The MGM Grand Detroit casino hotel is the newest gambling site in the MotorCity– clad in precast concrete – approved after the state of Michigan allowed the construction of three new casinos in the city’s downtown in 1996. The introduction of three new casinos to the financially teetering area could bring the MotorCity much-needed income as it struggles to rejuvenate its downtown.

National Precast recently finished production of 166 panels for the new JW Marriott ballroom and convention center in downtown Grand Rapids.

The rendering of the MGM Grand Detroit features a tan precast concrete exterior similar to that of the JW Marriott Grand Rapids.

Read the spring 2007 issue of Precast Solutions for more details on the MGM and JW projects. Mike Gnewkowski, project manager for the JW Marriott Grand Rapids, speaks in a Jan. 4 podcast about the new luxury hotel on the east side of the state. Precast concrete construction was recently completed on the hotel’s ballroom and convention center.
